Maker Agreement

The following lists the expectations for users of our spaces. They are intended to support the promotion of a positive, respectful, and safe experience for all users of the Design Lab, Creative Space, or other lab spaces. As a user of any of these spaces, you agree to the following:

  1. Facilities and services are available to current students and employees of Houston Community College and its partner institutions.
  2. All users must sign in and present a current college ID upon entering the lab. First time visitors will be required to review lab rules with our staff.
  3. Facilities, including tools and equipment, are provided “as is”, with no implied warranty or guarantee of availability and use.
  4. All tools and equipment are available to users on a first come, first serve basis. Classes and student organizations may reserve certain spaces, tools, and equipment at the discretion of the lab supervisor.
  5. Some tools and equipment require training or special instruction before use. Staff will approve the use of all tools and equipment for each user.
  6. Consumables used for fabrication or electronics activities will be supplied by users. Users may request to have their materials stored at the lab subject to availability.
  7. All tools, equipment, or supplies belonging to the lab should be returned after use and all project work areas should be cleared before leaving the lab. Any broken or damaged items should be reported to the lab staff.
  8. Food and drink are not permitted in the lab during normal operating hours.
  9. No copyright, patent, or trademark infringement allowed. You cannot use the Makerspace Lab to make, replicate, or alter objects, whether physical or digital, that violates copyright, patent, or trademark law.
  10. This is a supportive, creative space. Do not judge others – neither the objects they create or the techniques used in creating them.
  11. However, it is absolutely prohibited to make weapons, drug paraphernalia, or other items in our spaces. Lab staff reserve the right to stop any project that violates HCC policies, any local, state, or federal laws, or is considered offensive to others.
  12. Share your wisdom. These spaces are intended for the open sharing of passion, creativity, and design. If you see someone struggling and can help, please lend a hand. If you need help with something, please ask!
